If you established a brand of being calm and meditative, you don’t want to produce a video that is suddenly quirky and outlandish. This will immediately turn people off from your brand and cause them to no longer trust what you have to say, even if your next video is a return to form. 

Any goal that you set for yourself should be specific and attainable within a certain time frame. You don’t want to set an ambiguous goal and then get burnt out within a week. 

Another goal to consider is who your target audience is going to be. If you are already creating written content, like through blogs, newsletters, and the like, you should have a decent idea on who that is already. If you are just starting out, take some time and look into who you want to consume your content.

Depending on the goals you set for yourself, there are plenty of videos you can create that fit within your chosen marketing strategy.

There are plenty more you can choose to create. Remember, so long as they are on brand and within the goals you have set for yourself, there’s very little in your way.

As with your other marketing strategies, video marketing does require some planning. And this is on top of the goal-setting you did before you even started.

As with all content, you need to write your script. However, it’s easy to fall into the trap of becoming a salesman screaming at people on the other end of the screen.

We’ll be the first to tell you that doesn’t work. Not everyone can be like Billy Mays. 

What should you do instead?

1. Engage your audience with a story

As humans, we love a good story. And when it comes to marketing and selling products, the best way to get people to buy is to tug at their hearts. More people are willing to buy something if they feel an immediate emotional need to have that product.

2. Hook your viewers in the first 10 seconds.

It’s the same principle when it comes to any visual medium, like TV shows or movies. If it doesn’t do anything to keep your attention and make you engaged within the first few moments, there’s no point in continuing to watch it.

3. End with a call to action

Unless your goal is just to entertain your audience, every piece of content should end with a call to action, be it “check out my site”, “like & subscribe”, and so on. There are some videos that may not necessarily end with a CTA, though most do, they have their CTA in the video at some point.

Gone are the days when you needed an expensive camera and microphone setup. In fact, a lot of online content is created just using a smartphone. The cameras most phones come with have gotten to the point where they are even being used to make movies. 

Unless you are a videophile, most people can’t tell the difference between the camera used on an iPhone or Android, or even if it was shot using a DSLR or $10,000 camcorder.

Use the tools you have readily available. Don’t think you need to break the bank with expensive equipment. Tripods and ring lights are pretty cheap. Keep in mind, that they do range in user-friendliness, but there are online tutorials that can show you how to use them.
